Mum Love at No.10: A Moment That Reconfirmed Our Mission to Support Mothers Across the UK

This week, the Mum Love team had the absolute honour of attending a parents’ reception at No.10 Downing Street.

The event brought together people and organisations committed to supporting families, parents and children across the UK. It was a privilege to hear from the Rt Hon Rachel Reeves, who spoke about the Government’s commitment to supporting families and parents, and to be in a room filled with people who care deeply about creating a better future.

For Mum Love, it was a very special moment. Our journey has evolved so much since our initial meeting at Downing Street earlier this year.

Mum Love was created by mothers, for mothers, and was inspired by the question so many women ask after becoming a mother:

“Why didn’t I know this?”

Motherhood changes you. It is beautiful, powerful and life-changing, but it can also bring emotional and identity transitions that many women are not prepared for. Too often, mothers are expected to simply “get on with it” after birth, while their own emotional needs are overlooked.

At Mum Love, we want to change that.

Our mission is to help every mother understand why she feels the way she does during pregnancy, birth and postpartum — and to make sure she has access to the emotional support, language and tools she needs during one of the biggest transitions of her life.

Earlier this year, our Mum Love survey in partnership with YouGov revealed that 1 in 7 pregnant mums and 3 out of 4 new mothers struggle with their new role, often without recognising that these feelings can be linked to their identity transforming.

We presented these findings to Downing Street in February, highlighting the need for clearer emotional support for mothers both before and after birth.

Since then, our work has continued to grow.

We are now excited to be developing the Mum Love Emotional Support Pack. Our aim is to launch this by Q4 and make it available in over 24 languages to new mums across Britain through the NHS and community.

The Emotional Support Pack is being created to help mothers feel seen, understood and supported. It will aim to:

- Provide a clear understanding of the emotional transitions from pregnancy to postpartum.

- Address maternal identity loss, guilt, isolation and confusion.

- Offer practical tools mothers can use immediately.

- Introduce compassionate language to help mothers articulate their experiences and seek support.

Because when a mother understands what is happening within her, she no longer feels so alone. She can begin to see that she is not failing — she is transforming.

This week’s visit to No.10 was not just a proud moment for Mum Love. It was a reminder of why this work matters so deeply.

It was a joy to meet so many inspiring people committed to changing the future for mothers and families, from Honest Mum to Joeli Brearley, founder of Pregnant Then Screwed, and many others working to make a difference.

And of course, we had to have our photo taken in front of the black door.

What a day.

It reconfirmed and inspired us forward in our mission to change the emotional support offered to new mums across the UK.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who is helping us bring this mission to life.

Mothers deserve to be supported not only in what they do, but in who they are becoming.
