A mum’s recommendations for pregnancy miracle workers

I have had quite a lot of pain during various stages of my pregnancy – whether this was from doing too much exercise or general growing pains I have relied on a team of people who have eased my aches and pains, provided invaluable advice and offered reassurance.

I have listed them below and when I have used them in my pregnancy. Most of the people I use are East London / Central as that’s where I’m based but I would recommend the journey to them!

Kate Rubens: Pre and Post Natal Masseuse & Doula

I have known Kate for many years as she grew up in the same village as my cousin. I have had many massages before I was pregnant and she has an incredible knowledge of the human body and knows exactly how to ease tension and bring relief.

From about 20 weeks I have been gettiny a weekly massage with Kate which has eased my lower back and pelvic pain considerably. Coupled with being a Doula Kate has been able to provide insight advice especially when it comes to the birth process that I have found incredibly reassuring. Most importantly to be firm about consent and how you don’t have to have any treatment / procedure during labour if you don’t want it. Something that really sticks with me is how she has advised that if a big decision needs to be made during the labour process asking the medical staff to step out the room for 5 minutes so you can have a calm discussion with your birth partner / doula etc without the pressure of being stared down!

£70 for an hour treatment

Ryan: Feldenkrais

I have been seeing the wizard for many years for various treatments. He helped me get back into running when my hips were having none of it. He was instrumental in getting me back, quite literally on my feet, after I had ACL reconstruction surgery and he’s helped through my fertility journey and pregnancy.

Ryan is a master in Feldenkrais – a gentle movement therapy that focusses on the nerves and muscles to realign the body. It is one of the most calming hours you can have and you come out feeling so much lighter and more mobile than if you went in!

£100 for an hour treatment

Tara Rivero Zeo: Accpuncture, Placenta Specialist Healer

Venture into the alternative medicine world around pregnancy and Tara is hot on the lips of all those in the know! An incredibly calming and knowledgeable woman I have been going to Tara for acupuncture to hopefully lead me into an easier labour.

I also will be handing over my placenta to Tara to turn into capsules and an array of tinctures which have been shown to help with post natal depression and general well-being. As I am probably only going to have one child I want to get every bit of goodness out of my body with this pregnancy!

I will update on how I get on with the placenta devouring in a later post 🙃.
